1. Look at the underlined word first.

 

2. Ask yourself:

    • Is it a place, person, time, reason, or thing?

 

3. Choose the correct WH-word:

    • Place → Where

    • Person → Who

    • Time → When

    • Reason → Why

    • Thing → What

 

4. Use the correct question order:

    • WH-word + do/does + subject + base verb

 

5. Use “do” or “does” correctly:

    • do → I / you / we / they / plural nouns (cats, dogs, students)

    • does → he / she / it and one person / one thing (cat, dog, student)

 

6. Put the subject next:

    • (I / you / we / they / he / she)

 

7. Use the base form of the verb:

    • live (not lives)

    • work (not works)

 

8. Do not repeat the underlined word in the question.

    • The question asks about it.

 

9. End the sentence with a question mark ( ? ).
