- Because → gives a reason
Example: I stayed home because I was tired. - But → shows contrast (opposite idea)
Example: I wanted to go, but it was raining. - So → shows result or effect
Example: It was late, so I went to bed. - Although → shows contrast in a single sentence (more formal than “but”)
Example: Although it was cold, we went outside. - Or → gives a choice
Example: Do you want tea or coffee? - And → adds information
Example: She bought apples and bananas. - Therefore → shows a logical conclusion (formal)
Example: He studied hard; therefore, he passed. - However → shows contrast (formal, often used in writing)
Example: It was expensive; however, I bought it.
